Founder & Principal Architect
Shawn is a native of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and a graduate of the Kansas State University School of Architecture. He has been a registered architect since 2001, and founded Caton Architectural Design in 2018.
He is a 4th-generation architect in the Kansas City metropolitan area, and the first in his family to become licensed and practice in both residential and commercial. That dual expertise is rare, and it's the reason a single architect can carry a project from a backyard addition to a multi-story mixed-use building.
Based in Kansas City, Missouri, the firm completes projects across the United States and in Mexico, and is licensed in 13 states.
Beyond the drafting table, Shawn has served as an adjunct professor of Software and Design Media at the Art Institutes International–Kansas City. With a natural affinity for the outdoors, he travels widely in Latin America and has given his time to mission work in Guatemala and Ecuador, the same care for people that shows up in how he treats every client.
